History of M&M Crushing
M&M Crushing Pty Ltd is a third generation family owned business. The business has been operated by the Mexted and MacDonald families since 1968 and operated a quarry and landfill at Burleigh until 2010.
The business started small after they sold up their farming and earthmoving interests in New Zealand and moved to the Gold Coast and went into competition with Paget Bros. and Hughes Earthmoving. After a few years, the competition moved on and M&M moved onto the quarry site vacated by Pagets and Hughes.
1st Generation : Bain Mexted was a colourful character who was still operating machinery until well past his 73rd birthday.
2nd Generation: Philip Mexted and Col MacDonald are still very much hands on with the business.
3rd Generation : Brett Mexted and Jason MacDonald now take an active role in the daily running of the business with the help of Gwen Higgs.
M&M were first on the Gold Coast to crush and make Road Base Materials. First with a Pugmill on the Gold Coast for making Cement Treated Roadbase. One of the first EPA licensed Private Landfills in Queensland. First and largest concrete recycler on the Gold Coast. Some of the better known projects that have been recycled at this facility are Sundale Shopping Centre, The Meteora Building, Pink Poodle Motel and Gold Coast Hotel.
Many of our staff have been here for a long time, some for as long as 20 and 30 years. Recycling has become a very important part of the business and we are constantly looking for ways to maximise recycling recovery rates and extend the life of the landfill through innovation and the use of the latest equipment.
The property was sold to Gold Coast City Council in September 2009 and we will now concentrate on our mobile crushing and screening of rock, gravel, sand, soil and mulch through M&M Crushing.
